Why do I get 1x signal rather than 4g lte?

For some reason I only get a 1x signal where I used to get 4G LTE.  What happened?? Did I make someone angry at the local store when I complained about the music being too loud in the store?

I'm sorry that I'm such a grumpy old man, but I sure wish I could get 4G LTE service that I am paying for.

UPDATE: I did some more research on line and its the update to kitkat that is causing the issues with getting 1x signal rather than 4G LTE. Thank-you Verizon for an update that I didn't want and screwing up my phone and service with your update. How long will it be before you put out an update to fix your update?? And in the meantime, I'm paying for Crappy service.

Go into your Settings App, Mobile Network and make sure your Preferred Network is set to LTE/CDMA mode.

I am on the hunt for the 4G service that you deserve, michaelpk6! Do you experience issue in all areas or just in the 51104 area? I was able to confirm that this is a a full 4G/LTE coverage area. Is anyone else experiencing issues in your area? Try to remove the sim card out of the device (power off device first) and place back in.

Does 4G appear after removing sim?

Share the additional details needed so that we can better assist.

Thank you,

VZWSupport,

I had the same issues, my 4S was on 1x regardless of location.  I removed the SIM card and problem was resolved.

I have come to the conclusion that my antenna is bad in my phone. I get 4glte in some areas but not others. I think my antenna is weak.

We definitely want you to stay connected where you need us! Let's get the 4G LTE service back for you. Did your experience improve after removing the SIM card? What about with the device in Safe Mode? http://vz.to/OfrEXw

I am dealing with same issue the battery draining i thought it was due to it being in phone for almost year but when i think about it this is just started happening I get NO 4 G except when the Tech support did some kind f manual upgrade on phone it worked for all of 4 hours and went back to having nothing it does not even say 3 G like it once did i am getting 118dBd service which is NOT good i have a half a bar and i keep dropping calls. My friend has the same phone upgraded and is with another carrier and has not had the issue Now they state i can get a warranty replacement and want to give me a Galaxy 4 but from what i read it too is having this issue with the KitKat so ?? Thankfully my contract is up in November and i am seriously considering leaving if this continues. Mine you this has been happening since may and thy JUST put in a week ago that they were going to check the network in my area needless to say The Tech Henry stated it would be 24 to 48 hours and i am STILL waiting
I have a new tech who has been very helpful but after all this reading i am a bit worried.
This is leaving me a very unhappy user i mean how can i not have service in Baltimore MD and Washington DC?
That is crazy

My S3 is not having any data problems after the update.  It is the same as before, but your comment on the music in the store caught my eye.  I was out of town in Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago and had to go into the store regarding an equipment issue on another phone, and I could not believe the music was so loud people were screaming at each other.  I like music as well as the next person, but this was like movie theater loud!

I have since went back to using my Samsung s3 mini, it works perfectly!! Good signal and 4g lte works fine also. I tossed the the old phone, I believe it had a bad antenna inside of it. It was old , worn and knicked up.

The people that work at Verizon are really very friendly and extremely helpful. I have been to all 3 stores in my area, all of them I would rate as 5 stars! Verizon's workers are the greatest!! Thanks Verizon!

I have been having problems with signal & battery both since the update to the new software on my S3.  Changing to the new network type automatically helped with signal.  I don't know what to do about the battery.  Any advice would be appreciated.

I know it's important to have good battery life Meoww. How long are you getting out of a full charge? Have you tried a full charge with the device powered off?

I'm having the same issues since the upgrade:

over the past week or so, my Galaxy S5 connection will go from 4G to 3G or even 1X and will not go back to 4G unless I reboot the phone or turn on Airplane mode, wait a few seconds, then turn airplane mode off.  Then I will have 4G again, but only for a period of time, and then it will revert back to 3G or 1X.  I never had this issue with my previous phone.  And when the connection changes I'm not traveling around in different coverage areas.  This happens in my home/work area (Zip 07738 and 07701), as well as when I'm out of town.

I'm also experiencing random reboots on my Galaxy S5.  There is no telling when it will occur, but I'll be using the phone and then all of a sudden it will simply reboot.
