How come message notification tone doesn't work for messages, always the default notification tone

Vz messages+ I figured it out. Under customize I was able to change notification tone. I kept looking for it in phone settings. Not app settings. Thanks for replying though
Are you using VZ Messages+ or the native messaging app?
