Why is my Galaxy s6 + using so much data?

  Got a new Samsung Galaxy s6 edge plus last week and it appears to be using an unusual amount of data. I have a 2GB plan and never use more than a half a GB in any month. In fact the Verizon corporate store had commented when looking at my account how little data I use, when getting the new phone. That is because I'm with Comcast and get free Xfinity Wifi with speeds of 130 to 270 mbps.

  So far over a 6 day period the s6 has used over half of my 2GB. In the 1st two days it used 2/3 of a GB. In looking into the s6 it seemed to be from the Google Play Store, even though I hadn't installed any apps, just browsed the store 3 times. So I changed settings in the play store and haven't opened it in 3 days. So that appears to have slowed that down.

Last night there was a Verizon Messages app update, which I use Wifi for all updates etc. The update was scanned by Total Mobile Protection (TMP) which I have, with my insurance plan. I wonder if TMP is using data, in the back ground, even though being connected to Wifi? There has been about 30 previous updates in the past week as well.

  So if anyone may have any ideas? I'm just trying to figure out what maybe causing the data use, especially where my data use has always been low, and not doing anything differently.

A couple of years ago when I first got a Droid Maxx there was an extremely high date use. Which I found was coming from an app called Google Plus. After uninstalling it eliminated the data loss.

  I have about 23 days left in my billing cycle. Which at this rate of data use would put me well over the 2GB in the plan I have.

  Hi Anthony, The Google Play Store has used an unusual amount of data, especially where I haven't downloaded anything from there, but it seems to have leveled off. I am much higher than normal on data usage. But now I'm thinking it may have been cause the smartphone is new, and I may have missed something along the way.

  Anyway it has leveled off. I may go over my 2GB plan. If so and this smartphone does use more data for whatever reason, I found on My Version that I can change the plan from 2GB of data to 3GB for only $5 more dollars per month, how nice is that. Thanks for your response, and this Samsung Galaxy s6 edge plus is a great smartphone!

I want to make sure that you are able to see where your data is going Salisbury. I personally use the Data http://vz.to/1zkDcdRUtilization tool which tells you where your data is going. I know you stated that you are connected to WiFi. Please make sure that it does show connected. At times if the signal is weak than the signal can drop. Have you downloaded any new apps?

  Thanks for the response. No I haven't downloaded any apps and have a great Wifi. Just a little puzzling right now, this s6 is very clean haven't even used most of the apps yet like Google Maps etc. which likely would use data. Eventually I should come across it. More post may come in with some further ideas.

@Salisbury

It’s our pleasure to assist you.  I want to ensure your device is performing as expected.

In the meantime, can you tell me which apps show the highest cellular data usage: http://vz.to/1OV4wGq?  Please keep me posted.

There is something going on with iPhones as well. I have 10 gb of data and never go over 2 or 3. In one weekend, my phone kept freezing, knocking me off of Asus WiFi and switching to cellular to use 3/4 of my data! Out of 10 GB!! I wonder if the April 2019 had anything with all the trouble this weekend. I afraid to even use my phone for the rest of the month!
