I have an app that needs Adobe flash player 9.0 to run the videos, when i try to update I then get a message that the app is not supported? This is a new phone why would that update not be supported? It ran just fine on my Galaxy 5.0

Adobe Flash Player hasn't been supported on Android devices for years because Adobe stopped supporting it. You might be able to find the last version of the APK and install it on the phone. Most likely that is what you had to do on the previous phone. It would be smarter if the application developer of the application requesting the flash player to update their application to use the newer HTML 5 web design instead of relying on a dying insecure technology.
