hi everyone
so. yesterday i got alerts from verizon saying i am out of data, so surprised as i was i checked what was using data and it turns out my gmail used 8GB of data in 1 day while running in the background. this is clearly creating massive cost on my verizon account.
in july gmail app data usage in GB: 0.04 total (0.03 in foreground, 0.01 in background)
in august gmail app data usage in GB: 0.03 total
in september gmail app data usage in GB: 0.03 total
in october gmail app data usage in GB: 8.2 GB total (0.06 GB in foreground, 8.14 GB in background)
this happened on a samsung galaxy s7. i sync 30 days of mail. i have no clue what happened but feel like something went horribly wrong and it is now creating large financial damage. every input is appreciated. thank you in advance!

8gb worth of videos on emails that can hold 20mb each would be outstanding. that did not happen. 😕

i had to ask when you didn't provide much in the way of details.
fwiw;
i got a notification from verizon a while back that we had used 75% of our 3g plan.
no way, i was livid....it turned out my wife had watched joe biden's son's funeral for 3 hours on her phone.

We truly understand your concern, Jochen. High bills because of data usage are never fun. We definitely want to get to the bottom of this issue before it gets out of hand. A lot of times when email is the root cause of data usage, it's because you either have your notifications turned on which keeps the app running in the background or the email contained a large file which can consume data in order to download it. We recommend turning off notifications for email and then check to see if there was a large file that came through your email. Let us know if this helps.
