buying ringtones

Can anyone tell me if you can give special ringtones to certain contacts.  I purchased four and assigned them but they are not working.  I feel like I just threw away money. I am finding this phone is not what it was made out to be.  But I am stuck with it for another year at least.

Try placing the ringers in the SD Card / Media / Audio / Ringtones folder and this way the phone can find the files easier, I have seen users have issues because they assign the ringer from a undetermined area that at times the device can not locate, the directory list is a default location for the device to search for ringer alerts so the files usually works better if they are placed there...

Also make sure you havd a mp3 file did not accidently download a ringback tone because I have seen a few do this and these can not be used as a ringer on the device.

Are they phone contacts or google contacts? You cannot assign them to google contacts, only if they are phone contacts.

Are you sure of this because all my contacts are Google stored and the custom ringers work fine but if you have FaceBook or Tweeter contacts synced they dont work for those contacts but all others seem to work fine for me.

Samsung modified the android system and their UI so that the phone restricts assigning ringtones to only contacts that are saved to the phone only. IMO, not the smartest move on Samsung's part. Chalk it up to yet another difference between the manufacturers.
