I'm sorry to learn that your phone won't turn back on after a system update, countryred1. This is very rare and in some cases, it can be resolved. What is the phone model?
I understand that you need to transfer the content of that phone to your new phone, but you did not back up your phone's content to the Google Cloud (https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2819582?hl=en) or the Verizon Cloud (https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/verizon-cloud-faqs/).
You mention that you transferred information to your computer, do you have access to that information? What file type did you use to save that information?

Since you posted in Samsung, might you have made and backed up to your Samsung account?
โAdding your Samsung, goodie or syncing with your Verizon cloud should sync your information back on the phone.

lesson to be learned, contacts on gmail are there forever + on all devices if "sync" is selected.
