Open the Phone app, tap the three dots in the upper right-hand corner (it may be labeled More instead), tap Settings, turn off (via the slider) Swipe to Call or Send Messages.

I really appreciate you trying what tikibar1 had suggested, marki86. If you have disabled the “Swipe to call or send messages” option within your phone settings but still find yourself with those pesky accidental calls, I’d like to confirm a few more details so we can find a solution that works for you. Are you in a particular screen or application when you notice the accidental call? Do you find the phone tends to call a specific contact or a recent caller? Do you have your phone connected to Bluetooth when those calls connect?

It happens in the Verizon message+app. I can just barely touch and it thinks I have swiped. I have turned it off in both places mentioned. This just started with last update.

Same problem here. I turned the feature off but that only disables it in Contacts. It says it disables it in Messages too but it doesn't. I've pocket dialed more people in the past month than in the past 5 years with the S8.

Verizon Messages+ must be the problem  HELP!

Perhaps you need a more secure lock screen as opposed to the swipe security instead?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Well it's also dialing when I'm scrolling through my text messages and accidentally swipe a little wrong. And it dials so fast that you can't stop it from ringing on the other line. It should get disabled if you disable it!

paulras,

We’re here to help get this all taken care of. Let’s make sure that we stop these unintentional calls. Your efforts taken so far are appreciated. Please describe the screen(s) that this happens on.  You mentioned you are using Messages +. Is that app updated?

Yes, the app and my phone are updated. It is the list screen. Where you first open app.

Similar to Marki86, in the Message+ app, I'll be on the first screen where all the names are listed and it thinks i swiped to the right and dials the contact. I've disabled the feature in the phone settings and that appears to only work for the Contacts app and the basic Message app. But nothing seems to disable the swipe to call feature in Message+. I think Verizon needs to update the app to get this feature to disable when you want it disabled.

marki86,

Accidental dialing can be a real pain, I agree. Just like tikibar1 suggested, going into the Settings menu to change that "Swipe to call or send message" option will prevent this, although you'd have to change this in both the Phone and the Messages apps separately. Just tap on the 3 dots in the upper-right corner to select Settings and it will be the top option. That will fully disable the feature for you.

There is no place I can find in the message+ app to turn it off.

Thank you so much for your added insight to where the problem is occurring, marki86. I really appreciate you making sure the application is updates and checking for all possible settings. I was able to confirm that the swipe to call function in Message+ is separate from the swipe to call or send message option I mentioned earlier. At this time, there is no way to turn off the option within Message+ directly. This is something that has been brought to the attention of the Message+ application developers in hopes of a future enhancement but I do not have an estimate to when that may be added. You can also submit feedback directly to the developers for enhancements you’d like to see by navigating to the Play Store on your phone. Select Menu (three horizontal lines) then Apps & games followed by My apps & games. When you select the application you’d like to submit feedback for, such as Verizon Messages for this example, scroll all the way down to the Developer section and tap Send email.

In case anyone else comes here and finds Verizon's non-answer lacking:

The (only?) way to prevent this is to use an app that asks you "are you sure" before making any phone call. I think the one I use is called "Call Confirm" but there are tons of others.

The feature to turn this off and on is NOT in the phone settings but in the texting conversation settings.

  1. Open the texting application
  2. select the three small horizontal bars in the upper left top next to the Text word "Conversations"
  3. select settings
  4. select conversations
  5. the option "Enable Swipe" change from on to off by moving the tab to the left, should change from blue to grey

This feature should now be disabled
