Updates are usually pushed in groups and maybe you device just hasnt been reached to push the update to.... The do this to mimimze server issue from heavy traffic, you may want to give it some time...
Usually OTA rollouts take a couple weeks, maybe a little more depending on how many phones are in service.
What o/s are you running on your phone currently? Did you have any problems installing Froyo and the subsequent revisions that were released to fix what went wrong with Froyo? You can't install Gingerbread if you are currently on Eclair for example.
An O/S update is done geographically, if your friend lives in same area you do is not likely it was sent to her and not you.

No, they're not, update rollouts are completely random, though some have speculated that it is done based on your MEIN. To update based on area would defeat the purpose of doing a staggered rollout, imagine the strain on the network in that area if everybody with the same phone was all of a sudden trying to download and install an update. Besides, I've sifted through enough "I'm in ........., no update here" threads to see that there is no rhyme or reason to how these things happen.
An there a pain in the Toosh! waiten for them sometimes as long as 4 to5 months out.. Hu! Demmo

I have the samsung fascinate and my friemd does too. She updated her software today and mine wont let me. Ive gone to settigs and all my phone says is no new software available.how do i update mine?
Are you sure your phone was not updated without you knowing it? There have been others that have posted that their phone did the update automatically. Go to SETTINGS | ABOUT PHONE | FIRMWARE VERSION and if it is 2.3.5 then you already have the Gingerbread update, and the phone is correct, there are no new updates. Otherwise, post back what version it lists there.

Ok thank you i apreciate it. How long usually would it take? Like a day to a week or a month? Because ive been havimg issues with it the past 4 days.
What kind of issues? Are you sure it has not done the update automatically?
It is Feb 7, 2012 and my Fascinate hasn't been updated to Gingerbread. OTA Server Initiated hasn't happened and when I try OTA User initiated, I keep getting a message that no new software is available. My Fascinate now has Froyo ED01. But I didn't get this update in the usual way - I had to use update.zip and Recovery. Is VZ still rolling out Gingerbread EH03 via OTA? I would rather have my phone updated via OTA but if that isn't working, I may have to resort to unauthorized means to update my phone. Over 2 months seems like plenty of time to update our Fascinates. If OTA isn't working, VZ needs to provide an alternative method to update our Fascinates.
