@@@ in text messages

Since downloading froyo, I have had several friends tell me they are getting @@@@@@@@@@@@@@ in place of text when I send them messages (the symbols are intertwined with the text).  They are usually in longer messages.  Any ideas of what is happening?  I did change my system font, but I changed my email one back to a standard font.  I don't know if it makes a difference, but the friends are all using iPhones.

The Fascinate is not Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) capable, which means it will only send or receive up to 160 characters at a time. If a message exceeds the limit of 160, or contains special special characters (i.e.. Emoticons), you will see the scrambling you described. For longer messages, try sending them as Multi-media messages (MMS), by choosing "New Picture Message" as opposed to Text Message. There, your longer messages will be accepted by the phone and should be sent correctly.

Not exactly sure what is going on with this but I did send three text messages yesterday and the recipient claimed it was garbbledy goop.  I have also noticed a longer delay is text messages being received by others also.
