"server unavailable" when trying to check for updates

As I said in another post, my email was working better since three dl09 update was pushed out. But I now have the gps (no lock for 20+ minutes minimum) and didn't have this problem previously.

I would like to try the ea28 update, but SINCE dl09 (not prior) checking updates gets "please wait"and then finally "server unavailable."

SPent more than an hour on the phone with tech support (hard reboot, reactivate...) and they ended up telling me to go to the official verizon store where they can update the phone via internet and usb cable. Well, took off of work, went out of my way to get to store. They were useless. Never heard of such issues and, no, they can't update thru usb, they don't have access to the updates.

Also, my email isn't as good as it was...after DL09 it would POP on its own. After reactivating, it again won't POP automatically, but will download msgs if I hit Load More Msgs (which is better than before DL09).

I really don't want to reset my phone and lose data from all my apps.

Any solutions to the update problem? The store told me these build updates come from google directly...???

Try this.  Go into the Location and Security section in settings.  If the VZW location services is checked, uncheck it.  Make sure the other two (standalone and google) are checked.  Make sure you have latest version of Google maps and give it a try.

As far as the email goes, don't know what to tell you there.

Nope, that hasn't worked.  Have been on phone with Verizon numerous times and even in person to the store. There should be an option (online or on phone) to select Push (or Download) Latest Update. More info about my attempts to solve are in my post about GPS not working after DL09.

Talk to Verizon, I had the same issue with my first phone, and they had to replace it. There was a bunch of Fascinates that were shipped bad from Samsung, unable to check for updates. They will be able to check your esn against their list. Bottom line, your phone probably will need to be replaced.

Do you have a good signal? and also could be in area where there is too much data usage by many others. That happens to me at a friends house and I get good signal and text and talk is good but not internet and same problem at this location with my old phone the Env 3

It seems some droids just have problems with the stock email also. I dont know if its something in the interaction with the email server or what. I know I have a Verizon domain email address and it would never push my emails i always had to manually retrieve them. Try downloading K9 mail from the market (free app). it works for the majority of people that i know have had this issue.

Also i also had problems with my gps UNTIL i downloaded GPS status as well. Now its much better.
