Download Ringtone Maker from the market. You can make your own ringtones,  and in the settings, you can pump up the volume.

I have downloaded it and made a ringtone for Text Messaging notifications, and now when my wife sends me a text while I am in the store, you can hear it the next isle over.

There was a recent issue with the updates to volume+, the developer has the issue fixed now I believe.

I downloaded Ringtone Maker, but find that it will only allow volume and fader adjustments on MP3 files. I think all the files built into it are AAC so I can't adjust them for volume. Can you tell me how to get MP3 files into the app or is there another approach to this problem?

When you first open Ringtone Maker, it will show you all the MP3's that it found on your Galaxy Nexus. Scroll down/up to find a song that you want to pick a part of it out to make a ringtone. Press on the Green arrow at the right of the song, that will load up the song. There are two sliders (Left and Right) that you can move to pick the part of the song you want to make. Play around at that point and everything else is pretty easy. When you have the part picked out, press on the speaker icon to adjust fade and volume, and then press the disk icon to save it out.

There has been a couple of articles saying that the next update will work on the volume, but nothing has been sent out yet. No fix for the volume for 4.0.2 which installed right after I set up the phone.

I just download the free PowerAMP from the market today. It is a Trial, so that means it could go away in a week or a year. I love it so far. It lets you tell it what volumes you want to amp up. I really only wanted it for music and ringtones. So far I really like it.
