I use Message+ on an Android phone. I noticed today that all my text messages to all people prior to May 2018 are no longer on my phone. Size or number is not the issue because I do not have all that many and regularly delete unimportant texts (one by one, not in mass) Any idea why? Is there a way to get them back and more importantly, to not have this happen again?

JSEAGAL, I can certainly understand how missing text messages would be so alarming. I am happy to assist you with your message settings and investigating what happened. If you go to Settings > Conversations > Delete Old Messages. Is this option activated? Can you tell me more about how you back up your device? Did this change happen around any new updates? Once we know what happened we can go through how to prevent it from repeating in the future.

Thank you. The Delete Old Messages is Not activated, never had been.
Unless it is automatic with my account (in other words no action needed on
my part), I never set up cloud storage/backup for my device. I do have a
Verizon account and a Samsung account but never set up Cloud storage on
Verizon.
I believe this is not the first time messages went missing, a year or more
ago I noticed I lost most of my conversations between my sister and I. I
didn't notice if other conversations also went missing.
My husband and I have the same phones (currently Galaxy S9) and he has all
his message conversations and he never deletes anything so he has quite a
lot. We got our new phone in August 2018. At the time it seemed
everything ported over to the new phones fine but I didn't go back and
check for old messages. I am not sure when the conversations went
missing. Prior to that we both had Galaxy S5 phones.

Thank you for that information, Jsegal. Rest assured we'll do everything in our hands to help. Before this issue occurred, do you remember doing anything different on your device? Do you still have your previous device?

We no longer have our old phones, reset to factory settings and returned to
Verizon for credit.
On my (our) new phones, we received them August 4, 2018. On that day or
the next there was a system update. The history shows two other system
updates:
Latest is G960USQS3ARIB applied Oct. 17th, 2018
Prior is G960USQS3ARI6 applied Sept. 22, 2018
My older text messages were on the phone in August, I'm not sure if they
went missing in late Sept. or in October if related to the system update
.
In Message+ Settings -> Conversations -> Conversation message limit -> the
value is 300 messages per conversation. It doesn't allow me to change the
value but I never had anything close to that many messages per conversation.
