There are ways, most obvious is to just take the phone and look at them. Depending on the messaging app being used, you can set up what I believe is integrated messaging on another device such as a tablet. What will happen is it links all messages between the devices. Both options will require you to have the phone at some point, but I'm assuming you're the account holder and that you are still in care of your child.
