Because she could be using wifi for data. Verizon only has the ability to restrict cellular data. It has no control over data from another source.

If she is home and using wifi, change the password or turn it off during that time period.

TThank you very much . That's exactly what is happening . So really I don't even need to have this plan . This was not explained to me from Verizon considering she lives in our home and is connected to our wifi for data .  Other than turning off wifi on the house how can I restrict her wifi usage ? Is there a way ? Also does this include texting after hours under wifi ?

I would think that "texting" over wifi would be able to be controlled by Verizon. Although it may be sent out via wifi, it would still be going thru Verizon's servers which ARE controlled by Verizon.

Keep in mind that "messaging" via other apps as you have indicated, i.e. Skype, is NOT texting. These are messages which go thru Skype's servers and are not SMS/MMS "texts" which go thru Verizon's servers. To keep her from using messaging platforms on various apps you will have to somehow restrict wifi such as turning it off in your home if you don't want her using it. Your router may have some sort of time restrictions which could be instituted. You would have to consult the owners manual of your router.

Lvm64, as a mother of 3, I know that it can be quite a challenge to keep our kids safe and on track. In this case, one suggestion would be to change your home Wi-Fi password and then not provide this to her. In this way, you are allowing yourself and anyone else that has that password, to use your wi-fi but restricting her but not providing that password.

As to the text messaging, if she has an iPhone and is using iMessage, this will go through wi-fi. There are also many other messaging apps that work with wi-fi. By changing that wi-fi password and not allowing her that access, those messages would also be stopped unless she accesses another wi-fi network.

Thank you . In my opinion then it restricts all of the others in my home from saving on their data usage as well as her .It also restricts us from using our own mobile devices . I appreciate your input .

It depends on how important it is to you to enforce these time restrictions on your daughter.

You could also confiscate her phone during these periods.

Get a wireless WiFi router that will allow you to set time windows for specific items.  These types on managed routers cost a little more, but you can have full control.  There are many Asus brand routers that have parental controls.

Also, if you decide to cut off WiFi, you will definitely need to keep Familybase because then her phone would just use your data plan.
