Messages+ receiving duplicate texts

Have had my Galaxy S10+ for a couple months now with no issues. Woke up and noticed that the Messages+ app was receiving a duplicate of EVERY text I received. When switching the default message app to the standard Android Messages, the problem stops.

Have tried partitioning system cache, clearing App caches, deleting App data, and restarting the phone multiple times but nothing has worked. Checked for a system update but I am currently up-to-date as well.

Very frustrating.

I'm having a the exact same issue. It stated this morning and seems to be only happening on mms messages, like any group text or picture message. When I switch to the stock android app the problem dissappears, as soon as I'm back on Messages+ it begins again. I've force closed and erased the apps data and cache but the problem comes right back as soon as I start it up again. Perhaps this is a system issue if it's affecting multiple users.

Me too! It is quite annoying. But i am thinking that this must be a system wide issue since we all seem to be having this issue today.

Yes, it's too coincidental for multiple users to have the same exact issue on the app, all starting this morning. Especially seeing as relatively few users will take the time to use this forum to try and address the issue. So if just 4 or 5 users appear here in short order with the exact same situation it reflects a magnitude of users well beyond.

I am also having this issue with Verizon Message+. I have definitely noticed that the problem is much worse where I work, and this is a location where BOTH the wifi and Verizon network coverage is terrible. I suspect that the issue is one where the Message+ app attemptse sending the message over BOTH wifi and the Verizon network and doesn't receive a notification back from the target device that the message was received. WHen I send messages outbound using the App I frequently see the message status change to "sent"; sometimes (but not always) I see that change to "received". In any case, I frequently receive the duplicate messages (presumably over the other communication channel) anywhere from seconds to minutes later...

I will stay with Message+ because of its ability to communicate over wifi, but it would definitely be a good thing if Verizon can find a way to make this more robust.

Galaxy S10+, Message+ version 6.9.11, default Samsung Messages app not selected.

It is definitely frustrating to be receiving duplicate messages.

Let's try some troubleshooting steps, just let us know how these go!

  1. Are all your Apps are up to date? You have 2 places that you need to look. Google Play store and Galaxy app store. Go to both and check My Apps. Make sure there is no app that needs updating. 
  2. Is your phone OS up to date? Go to Settings, About phone and check for software update. Make sure you have the latest phone software. 
  3. Clear phone cache. 
  4. Clear Application cache and sometime Application data. 
  5. Restart your phone in Safe mode. This is just to help you isolate the issue if it is caused by 3rd part apps.

Do you experience duplicate incoming messages from specific contacts?

 

Do you notice any improvement if you power your phone off for one minute and then power it on?

@vzw_customer_support, @BrittanyC_VZW Has someone in the Messaging Group identified a cause of replicated texts?  Have they informed you that uninstalling/re-installing the app will resolve the issue?
