So if a child turns off the VPN in their setting, verizon familybase is pointless?

We know it's important to control content for young people, CRYPAT94. We'd love to look into this for you. What make & model of phone is your child using? Do you have the Smart Family application installed on that phone? Are you using a third party VPN, or do you mean the App?

I have the same problem with my child. He simply turns off the VPN in his settings and can access whatever he wants, even if internet turned off & sites blocked via the Smart Family App.
My child has an iphone 6s.

scvagent, We want to make sure that you're able to use your family controls. Let's find out what's going on and get this solved. What limits are you trying to set? What happens when you do? What model phones do you both have?

We certainly want parents to be able to manage their child's phone, HockeyMom3. We are here to help.
You would want to make sure to download the Smart Family Companion app on your child's phone. The Verizon Child app is an older version when our Smart Family service was called Family Base.

My son and daughter have the exact same phone and he is ALWAYS having to reconnect. He tells me he's not turning off. I know he's lying because I have seen other parents say the same thing about their child's vpn. Why am I paying for a service that he can turn off! It's really frustrating to me!

Controlling the flow of information is important when you are a parent, I get it. What is the make/model of your son's device? JoeyM_VZW

I had the same issue with my son Basically he downloaded an app that sets up a separate VPN to override the smart family one I deleted it and blocked downloads.

If you see my post from today, blocking downloads has a major bug and can be easilly overridden if you are on Android. Don't rely on that!

Our son has the iPhone 7 and he uses a VPN to bypass the Smart Family controls. Even when I use "pause internet" he can still do whatever he wants. It's frustrating because I get the emails notifying me of late night calls and texts but can't do a thing about it! Why am I paying for a service that is useless?

Our son was able to use the mobile hotspot with a VPN app on his laptop to bypass the Verison Family restrictions and get unrestricted access. I figured out a counter (for now...) by restricting his data limit down in the Smart Family App. You can change the limit any time on the app to increase data and allow access. If data is not limited, it doesn't matter if the phone internet is paused, they can access data through mobile hotspot.
