I do not believe (others can correct me if wrong) that there are any parental controls available on the iPhone.  Smart phones are designed and marketed for responsible users and should be used/distributed to the same (in my opinion).

Your best option may be to physically take the phone away from your son at the times you do not want him using it.

Good luck

Thanks for the assist, Spiral!! CTRAG, if you're interested in time restriction, there is a service offered by VZW that allows you to do just that, as well as restrict who your child can and cannot communicate with and other options. You actually named it yourself: Usage Contols! The feature is available to be used with the iPhone 4 for only $4.99 per month. You can add the feature using My Verizon or I can help you to add it. Let me know!

This is simply NOT TRUE. I just got off the phone with a Verizon rep who clearly stated that it IS available for the iphone 4, however, it could NOT be added. Now, answer that one!

What's the point in advertising a service that cannot be utilized.

Wow. Sorry to hear that! The best way for me to answer it would be for me to see it for myself! Can you send me a personal message please? I will need to have your name, the phone number that you would like to see this feature added to, the password or last four of your SSN, and a good time of day to call you so that I can give you the status. Thanks!

Seriously? If it can't be added, then it is not available.

I don't have an iPhone (yet) to test this, but the usage controls are on the service side of the phone, not on the phone itself. There's no technical reason why it wouldn't work with an iPhone 4. Verizon simply blocks the service for the phone. It would be no different than cutting off service if you didn't pay the bill.

You could check your options. If it lets you add usage controls to the iPhone line, I don't see any reason why they won't work. If you add them and they don't work, you can call Verizon to find out why.

I upgraded my daughter's phone to the iphone4 last week.  Was told my user controls would work on the new phone.  When I went on My Verizon account Saturday to change some time restrictions my user controls were no longer there.  I have now spoken with 6 different representatives between customer service and technical support since Saturday and no one has been able to help me.  I've received conflicting information with each different rep.  I was told to repurchase it again and it won't allow me to.  Customer service tried, technical support tried and was unable to get it to work.  I was then told user controls don't work on any smartphone, then I was told they work on all smartphones except iphones, then I was told yes they do work on the iphone4 but the third technical support person was unable to get it to work.  I was told I would be called back and never was.  I am now working with a fourth technical support rep who is trying to get some information on why it's not working.  She at least has given me her email address so I can get in touch with her but still has no answers but at least is trying.  I don't understand why this is so difficult and why Verizon's support staff has obviously not been thoroughly trained on the use of user controls on the iphone.  I would have never purchased the phone if I was unable to place time restrictions, etc. on the phone.  I was told I was still within the 14 day return period but I would have to pay a restocking fee and lose the money I have spent on the case and screen protectors.  I think that's absurd!  I just want to know...does it work on the iphone4 or doesn't it?  If it does...surely there is someone that knows how to set it up.  Please help!

Holy cow!  You and I must have been living a parallel life the past two weeks.  (Is your name Larry too?)  I've had the IDENTICAL experience.  I returned my daughter's iPhone last week because of this.  Fortunately, VZ customer support credited me with the $35 restocking fee and the $175 deactivation fee, so made me whole, except for the huge amount of time doing exactly what you did and getting the same inconsistent responses.  See also my other posts at http://community.vzw.com/t5/Wireless-Feature-Questions-Other/Which-phones-support-usage-controls/td-... and http://community.vzw.com/t5/iPhone-4/On-a-Business-Account-Cannot-buy-Usage-Controls-on-my-Own/td-p/....... and elsewhere.   Best, Larry

I now have clarity on this issue after corresponding with a VZ rep.  The correspondence is posted at http://community.vzw.com/t5/Wireless-Feature-Questions-Other/Which-phones-support-usage-controls/m-p...

The bottom line is: if you have the new data plan, you currently can't get Usage Controls - full stop.  If you are grandfathered under the unlimited data plan, you can.

Unfortunately my daughter would be a new customer and therefore is not grandfathered in, so I can't get Usage Controls for her phone.
