Why can't I text non-Verizon customers?

I can send text messages to people but only other people that have verizon can recieve my messages. Why? I just updated my phone a few days ago and I didn't really notice it until after I got the update. Why??

Everything is fine now with people getting my texts. I did a software

update and that's when I noticed that my texts weren't able to be read.

It's the regular texting app the comes with the phone.

Hi Kim

We never want you to be missing messages. Let's dive deeper into this and find out what's going on. What device do you have? What zip code are you in? Any issues with calling or data?

No problems with call or data. I have Motorola maxx. And it's 01223

I can get messages from them and I don't get an error message. I can send

anyone texts but only Verizon customers can actually receive my messages.

Other people with different services can get picture messages but that's it

Let's get those messages flowing. I know how important it is to stay in touch. Do you use a third party messaging app? I don't use third party...this has been going on for two weeks and nothing

has fixed it...

I did it and it didn't help. Also, I keep getting texts from random numbers

from all over the country saying"stop" or "don't text me again" or "stop

sending me these offers" and I haven't sent these people texts. I don't

even know these numbers. I look at my phone to see if I sent a random

number a text and its not there...I check on my Verizon to see what numbers

I sent texts to and their numbers aren't on it. So I think my phone is

sending people spam texts....how do I get this to stop?

Kim715, we're not giving up. You have so much going on your device. We recommend that you back up your phone to Verizon Cloud and then hard reset it. A factory reset will remove any potential culprit on your device.

Thanks for filling us in, Kim715. I really appreciate you sticking with us on this trouble. Just to clarify from one of your last messages, you mentioned you’ve recently been able to text people that were not receiving your messages before. Are you still having difficulties with any particular contact or carrier receiving your text? Since you mentioned this happened when you updated your phone, did you mean that you updated to a different model phone or did a software update on your Maxx? When you send and receive text, are you selecting the Messaging, Message+, or a different icon for the text application?
