That appears to be true which is sad given these guys are the face of verizon to many folks who come here. I will have to take it up by making phone calls and seeing if they really feel this is the best way for their customers to be treated.
If you could actually talk to someone in "authority" what purpose would that serve? What do you hope to accomplish? You think you'll change anything?

The fact is if you as the customer feel like you are not be treated as you should the best thing you can do is to no longer be a customer.
