DVR recordings are not clear and all choppy -unwatchable

The last day or so all the dvr recordings are not clear and unwatchable. There is extreme skipping chopping all through so you can not hear or see picture

Is it on all channels or just a few?

Is it directly on the DVR or a remote box?

If you watch a show while recording and then play back is it choppy?
