DVR stops recording - message says it's full....

My multroom DVR - Motorola 7216 - has a status of 95% available, there was only one program recorded. So I'm recording a 30 program and about 25 minutes into it, I get a message that the DVR has to stop recording because it's all filled up. This has happened twice before in the recent past - I tried that home agent reboot crap but it did nothing evidently. What's going on here? Is the DVR shot? It's frustrating to have recordings cut short. How do I fix this?

I'm having the same issue but I am 68% full, 32% remaining.  It's been happening at least 3 programs a week and it is getting to be annoying.

I've had the same problem on two different DVR's that I have.  Some shows it recorded only a little over a minute, and I missed the last half hour of Celebrity Apprentice.  Both DVR's have over 50% free, this seems like it started this past weekend for me.

The bookkeeping on the DVR's isn't them most robust, so there are often conflicts between what it reports, and what it actually sees. Things that are deleted from list of saved programming, sometimes don't get marked as available space after the delete.

Long standing and known issue unfortunately.

The fix when it happens (such as running out of space when it reports 50%) available, is to simply unplug the unit from the wall plug, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. The Boot process will rebuild the available storage information based upon what is currently saved in the unit. You won't lose any of your saved programming, but you will recover the missing space.

Remember, because your DVR has pause and rewind ability, it is actually recording your current channel as well as the previous previous channel "in the background". Simply put your DVR is always recording 2 programs. Even though neither may be saved to your recordings list, those "background" recordings still take up space. If the channel you are currently watching is a long program, as well as the one on the previous channel, the DVR reserves its available space for both. For example, say you are flipping back and forth between 2 HD football games, thats over 7 hours of HD content that being saved "in the background". Simple solution, If you DVR says full and you know you still have space, Turn your set to box off for a full 60 sec. All that space being used will be reset and become available. Also be sure to turn your set top box OFF when when you leave the house, not just your TV, otherwise the DVR still recording the last two programs and result in a storage conflict  that may result in missing your favorite show recording while you are out.

Furthmore, if you find yourself constantly running out space, there are external hard drives available that you can connect to most DVR's that can dramatically increase your storage capacity. Check verizon support for more info.
