My buddy at Verizon just sent me another note and wanted me to stress this point.
Do not call Verizon to order now...it is not yet available and they cannot take orders for it.
According to them, it was only announced today that Verizon is going to carry the channel itself and they have not got all the info out to the employee's yet. So they are unable to answer any questions about it yet in any meaningful way.
Apparently they are getting a lot of calls asking about it. More info will follow when it is available.
But he was able to provide some info to me. This is supposidly going to be presented as an option similar to Netflix without the mail portion. This is supposed to be a movie package in and of itself. The big thing about it is that all the movies on Epix will be available immediatly via VOD and ONLINE, as well as being a typical movie channel with scheduled programming. Unlike the other movie packages that selectively put movies on the VOD, Epix will have ALL movies available via VOD and all the movies will be available online as well so that you can watch them anywhere you have an internet connection available.
This is all the info they have available at this time. Hope this helps
If there will be a separate $10 charge for this service and new movies from the Epix partners (Lions Gate, MGM, and Paramount) will no longer appear on the other premium channels like Showtime, thanks for nothing. I would rather Verizon, cable, and satellite not carry Epix and see the channel fail. I already subscribe to EVERY premium AND every Fios service (triple play) and pay enough. Also, to me watching movies on a computer via an internet connection adds no value to a premium subscription. I hope there is a backlash and an Epix boycott so the movies from these studios will return to one of the premium channels already included in the HBO/MAX/SHO/TMC/Starz/Encore package to which I subscribe.

I've gotta agree with you. I subscribe to them all right now and paying another 10 bucks for a SINGLE channel, ummm no thanks. I'm gonna pass, it is not worth the extra money. And the ability to watch a movie on my computer, who cares. Why would I want to watch a movie on my laptop when I have a 52" LCD HD-TV mounted on my wall. And pay extra for it too!?!?!?!
At least the linear channel is now showing the movies with Dolby 5.1 audio, unlike FiOS VOD's 2-channel stereo. But Epix's decision to blow-up movies to fit the 4-by-6 StandardDef or 16-by-9 HiDef frames is baffling, considering the studios OWN this channel, they OWN these movies and they can DECIDE to show them in their Original Aspect Ratios. Sorry, Epix, you won't be getting MY $9.95 a month.
Time Warner is now offering Epix as a Stand Alone premium channel as well. $9.95 a month.
I don't see anything inherently "wrong" with the service nor the price.
I can watch a movie on my phone during my 2 hour commute to work?
I can logon from any computer at any location (e.g. the in-laws on Thanksgiving) and watch a movie?
I have immediate access to both new and old movies from a library that is larger than HBO, Showtime, etc.?
Yeah, my Triple Play bill is about $140 as it is, but if Epix pans out to offer equal or better than some of the other premiums, I'd dump them all except HBO and Showtime (gotta have my Entourage and Dexter) and keep Epix.
I'll admit that I'm waiting on the next step in movie services:
direct feeds of threatrical releases.
Rather than dealing with talking and stuff at the theater, you'll be able to watch a new release right at home.
oh it's coming ... believe me ... and it won't be at $10/month
