Is it possible to get my locals using nothing more than a coax from the FIOS stb to my Snony HDTV's digital tuner? I am a subscriber to the Extreme HD. My TV does not have a cable card. Thanks
a digital tuner isn't enough, it has to be a QAM tuner.
get your user manual and find out if it has a QAM Tuner, and if it does, then yes you can get locals and hd locals without a set top box. you won't get national programming like tnt, tbs, usa spike etc... but abc cbs nbc are more the type of stations you'll get, along with some public access stuff.

Sure is... I use a splitter for the coax on each of my 3 TV's with DVRs. That way I can watch a local channel and still record two others. The TV must have the QAM demodulator (aka tuner) to receive cable channels. Once connected, you will need to do a channel scan on the TV. Make sure to select Cable for the scan, not antenna. Some TV's do a better job with the channel scan than others, so don't give up if your first attempt isn't successful. One of mine, a Panasonic LCD, required a very special, non-documented, procedure to get it to work properly. I believe someone posted here that the locals are in the channel 70-76 area. Of course, they would be mapped to the lower (like the on-air) channels after the scan. Good luck.
Thanks, I'll see if my TV has a Qam tuner.
