As Carl said, the 1.7 rollout has been delayed. Only TX and CA got 1.7 (now seemingly referred to as 1.7A) then some problems were apparently discovered. Some people with 1.7 appear to still have some HDMI problems and I have seen reports of VOD problems.

Also as Carl said I have 1.7, got it 9/29, and have no problems (well, a small one, I get pixelation and sound loss maybe 2 times per hour on multiple channels, never lasts for more than a second or two, no black or blue screen, just a momentary pause and breakup, I saw that with 1.6.2 also at times so it doesn't appear to be anything new, and it may just be problems in the video feed not the STB, I don't know). I have a 6416 DVR using HDMI and two 2500 SD boxes, all seem to work just fine, VOD included.

As far as I know Verizon has never published a public schedule for the 1.7 rollout, what I posted earlier in this thread was an unofficial schedule from a possibly "connected insider". Nobody yet has published a new schedule, official or unofficial, so it looks like all you can do is sit back and wait.

If I hear anything I will be sure to update this thread. I do wish Verizon would give us some "official" news on this, 1.7 is hoped to fix a number of HDMI issues.

Justin,

I have 1.7 update out here in CA and the only issue I notice is that I now have to reset my SD STB every single day to get guide info to show up.  Has anyone else noticed this with 1.7.  I have had this box for years with no issues until the IMG upgrade?

I have not had that experience with my QIP6416 and 1.7. I hope maybe some others with 1.7 can give us their experience.

When the Guide info is missing, do you have connectivity to the router? You can easily check this in the STB:

Menu ==> Settings ==> System Information

If there is no IP address (should normally be 192.168.1.1xx) then your STB is not talking to the router. Of course you can also go into the router and see if it is seeing the STB. The STB will also tell you how many days of Guide data it has stored; mine normally says between 2 days and 9 days, so even if it loses connectivity occasionally you should have Guide data for at least 2 days I think. Someone posted once that the updated Guide data is distributed once a day, around 10 AM (each time zone? I have no idea).

If you see that there is no IP address in the STB, I suggest rebooting your router and see if the problem happens to go away. Your problem, whatever it is, could be at either end. I lost Guide data on two of my three STBs a year or so ago, long before 1.7, and that is the last time I had that. It took multiple reboots and "pulling the power plug" tries on both STBs and the router before I finally got both STBs back working. I never did figure out which specific steps I did that eventually fixed it, not a single failure since.

Since we are talking about a problem that showed up after 1.7, anybody got any idea when Verizon will resume distribution of an updated 1.7? I try to watch a number of sites for hints or rumors, haven't heard a thing so far.

After I posted last night I thought about trying some of the same stuff you mentioned.  Tonight I had some more free time to come up with some answers.  Let me try and summarize.  This is for my 2500 box.

First I checked how many days of guide were available....it said 6 days.   The guide was working last night.

I then tried   Menu===>Help===>In-Home Agent===>Network diagnostic.  Result was that the network was not connected.

I reset the stb via Menu===>Help===>In House Agent===> Reboot STB. Then retested last step and it was now succesful.  But the guide only had 2 days worth of data.  For good measure after this I went and checked my router(D-link, yea, the original old school setup) it seemed to be working properly, but for good measure I hard reset it.

Now today, I checked it out.  3 days of guide are available, but once again no network connection was detected.  This time I ran a

Menu===>Help===>Self Diagnostics===> Results showed 20 db S/N, WAN failed, DNS Failed, EPG server failed, widget server failed, packages were not shown, but LAN was available and gateway was available

This time I checked the router first, it appeared to be working properly but I reset it anyway.  Results were still showing the same failures.  Then I reset the box and the connection issue once again was resolved.     FOR TODAY.......

Just for kicks I ran network diagnostic on my 6416 DVR and it was fine, but when I ran the self diagnostic, the "FIOS TV Remote DVR" failed, which makes sense because yesterday I tried to program a recording from work and it said the box was not responding.  I therefore reset the DVR and reran the self diagnostic and it still fails.  Have you tried remote programing lately?

Hopefully others can learn from my experience or contribute their situations to further this discussion so we can all get to the bottom of the stoppage of the rollout.

What is the S/N on your other boxes? I seem to recall mine are at 25 - 26 db S/N.

Faulknkid,

I just checked my DVR and here are a few things I found:

1) My OOB SNR ratio is 26 db. I think yours seems low.

2) My remote DVR says "listener 1 started" and from the web I was able to view my schedule and current recordings, and I deleted a few recordings just to be sure it was all working.

3) System information now says I have 10 days of the Guide. I have found as I said before that the number of days seems to vary considerably, but never lower than 2 it seems. If you force a reboot of the DVR I think that wipes out the Guide data, and then the DVR pretty quickly downloads a couple of days. You can force additional days to be downloaded immediately by starting the Guide and using the Skip Forward button to skip ahead a day at a time, the Guide generally will populate very quickly out to 8 or 9 days, at least in my experience. If it won't go forward like that then I think the link to your router is gone.

I am wondering if maybe you have a cabling problem. Your SNR seems low, and losing connectivity between the router and the STBs would be indicative to me that the signal is getting lost somewhere along the way. Since it affects multiple STBs my guess would be a cabling issue involving the router, NIM, and splitter (ethernet and/or coax) or a coax splitter problem. Have you gone through and checked all of the connections? Can't hurt.

I don't know if this is a 1.7 issue, or something I didn't put together until now.. but.. here we go.

The Setup:

My 6416 is connected to my Yamaha RX-V3800 via HDMI and then to the TV's HDMI port.

The 6416 is also connected to the television via component cable.

The TV is a JVC 52G887.

The Issue:

SD Override setting would always rest to 480i after many times of turning it OFF. It may be caused when I turn on the receiver to listen to the radio, it detects the HDMI connection to the receiver (HDMI light in ON even when DVR is off, and the XM tuner is NOT HDMI). Somehow, it has been resetting my SD Override Setting even when viewing over the component connection.

The Solution (?????)

The problem appears to have resolved by setting the SD Override settings to OFF while watching the TV using the HDMI connection and then switching over to the component and setting the SD Override to OFF.

Again, I don't know if this is a 1.7 issue or one that was also in 1.6.2, since I really didn't piece it all together until recently.

(SD Override is still set to OFF)

I just checked my SNR, and it is 25. I can confirm that my test gave the same results as Justin's.

SNR is acceptable between 15-25

Matcarl is closer to what I had always heard.  I had heard 18-25 was considered acceptable.  But anyways, I am pretty sure that is not the issue.  My main DVR box does however get a 25 db.  I live in newer house that has all top quality cables with no splitters other the the verizon supplied 6:1 by the ONT.  None of the runs are very long either.  I watched them build the house so I know exactly where all the cables are run. Smiley Happy In fact the one that I am having troubles with is the shortest run of them all. But then again it still has to go to the next room for connection to the router via the NIM.

Just for kicks I checked all the connections in the house including unused room ports to ensure they were capped with  75 ohm terminators, as I do have a young daughter. My house is also CAT5E wired throughout.  In fact my router is connected to the ONT by  Ethernet cable.  Today I did a hard reset on the NIM as well.

Well, today once again I had the same issues as always and had to reset the box to get the WAN connected.  It never seems to lose connection with the home network, just outside information.

I have had this setup for years and had very little issues with anything.  Once 1.7 came, then I have had this problem every day.  I just don't see how 1.7 cannot be to blame.
