Is the HD DVR compatible with the Home Media DVR?

We can't deal with the lack of recording space on the Home Media DVR, so we are looking into exchanging one of our SD set top boxes for a HD DVR.  Seems like the only thing to do at this point.  Tivo has 1 Terrabyte of storage on it's current HD DVR, but Verizon offers what again on the HMDVR, ~160GB???  Does anyone else see a big problem with this lack of space and equity.  Heck I had 100 hours of recording on my old original Dish Network DishPlayers with a WEBTV wireless keyboard 10 years ago!!!!!!!  I am very disappointed that Verizon seems to focus on monitizing everything.

Where is the common sense and customer service?  $20.00 a month for about 70 hours of recording space in SD ONLY???  I wouldn't think of recording anything in HD as there is not enough hard drive space!!!

HAS ANYONE SUCCESFULLY UPGRADED THE HARD DRIVE TO 1 TERABYTE YET???  CAN WE HAVE EXTERNAL STORAGE???  WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE???

SO IS A HDDVR CAPABLE OF PLAYING THE RECORDINGS OFF THE HOME MEDIA DVR OR WHAT???

No, you can't play a recording from the multiroom DVR to another DVR.

Figures!!!  What is the best option currently to significantly expand the HMDVR's recording capacity???  I hover around 70 hours of SD recording capacity depending on what is recorded.  I NEED at least double that, but WOULD LIKE TO QUADROUPLE that to at least 280+ hours of recording capacity.

No Motorola DVR from any cable company currently supports eSATA expansion.

No Motorola DVR is available from any cable company with more than 160GB.  All Motorola DVRs use irmware that is "hard coded" to use the maximum capacity of the SKU (i.e. 160GB on the 160GB model); even if you replace the built-in drive with a larger one, the DVR never see more than 160GB.

If you want more than 160GB of capacity for FiOS cable channels, then you have three basic options:

(1) TivoHD 160GB - $199 @ Sears, plus $100 for a 1TB upgrade or external drive (upgrade instructions), plus $3.99/mo for one Verizon M-CARD, plus a monthly/prepaid/lifetime subscription.

(2) TivoHD 1000GB - $528 @ Amazon.com, plus $3.99/mo for one Verizon M-CARD, plus a monthly/prepaid/lifetime subscription.

(3) Moxi 500GB - $799 @ Amazon.com, plus cost of external drive, plus $3.99/mo for one Verizon M-CARD; no subscription required;

(4) HP CableCard PC - $1239 with one tuner, $1538 with two tuners, plus one $3.99/mo CableCard for each tuner.  Unlike the TivoHD and Moxi, current PC CableCard tuners cannot use a single M-CARD to support multiple tuners.

All of these options have built-in tuners; they do not record from another box.  They eliminate the need for the Verizon STB/DVR, with exception to VOD.  None of these solutions support Verizon's VOD, so you'll have to keep a Verizon STB if you want that.  The TiVos do support other VOD-type services, such as Amazon Unbox and Netflix SD/HD streaming.
