That is some great info. Two questions come to mind. With Tivo can you do the Multi Room DVR like FiOS offers now and can you set you program your Tivo over the internet.
You can program your TiVo online, both by their web site and over your cell phone (using a site tailored for mobile devices).
The TivoHD supports multi-room functionality for both SD and HD, but only between TiVos. A TivoHD will not support multiroom functionality with the Motorola boxes supplied by Verizon.
I was doing that for years till I went with FIOS, at the time know one knew if a TIVO would work that I spoke to
I'll be putting my old series 2 back on with the motorola STB and on the network with and Series 3 HD box also the LAN
KenAF You are a wealth of great information. I also like how you can increase the hard drive size and add external drives. I know what I'll be asking Santa for Christmas this year now.
Oh one other question, Verizon's new Media Manager lets you stream music and pictures from your pc to your tv, can tivo do this? What about videos on your computer? Some how I'm going to bet Tivo can atleast do music and pictures. Man on Man this sounds awsome. Writing Santa a letter now.
Just when I thought I had no more questions I come up with another.
The 12.95 service is that per tivo box? Right now I have 1 hd dvr box and 3 hd boxes at home, sounds like I would need 4 tivo boxes. Would I pay 4 x 12.95?

Service on the first TivoHD costs $12.99/mo, $129 prepaid for 1yr ($10.50/mo), $299 prepaid for 3yrs, or $399 lifetime (no future fees).
Each TiVo after the first costs $9.99/mo, $99 prepaid for 1yr ($8.25/mo), or $299 lifetime (no future fees).
On the first page in this thread, I posted a picture of TiVo Desktop, which allows you to automatically transfer recordings from the TiVo to your computer. The same program allow allows you to transfer videos from your computer to the TiVo. For transferring videos to the TiVo, you have two options. The traditional way is to choose a folder on your PC with the TiVo Desktop software, and then access that from the bottom of your recorded list, as seen below (Ken-PC):

The alternative is to set TiVo Desktop to automatically transfer all videos in a certain PC folder (or folders) to your TiVo. Screenshot of that functionality below:
Recordings in the "Trailers from PC" and "Movies from PC" folders on my PC are then transferred to the TiVo, as seen below.
Of course, you can name the PC folders whatever you want.
One of the cool things you can do with this functionality is download SD or HD recordings to your PC or Mac, remove the commercials, and send them back to the TiVo for viewing. In fact, there are now several third-party programs and scripts for the PC that automate this process so no user intervention is required. You sit down to your TiVO and you see a "Commercial free" folder (or whatever you called it) with your favorite programs; you don't even have to skip commercials because they've been removed.
The TiVo allows you to browse and play all your music and pictures over your network. You set the music and picture folders in TiVo Desktop. I don't have much music on this PC, but here's what music browsing looks like:
The TivoHD also directly supports Rhapsody, without the need for any other software, if you subscribe to that music service.
Wow again KenAF out doeshimself.
Great into with Images amazing. I wish Verizon would hire you as a tech support person maybe then I could get my Remove DVR feature to work.
I agree, this is great info. I have one question before I commit more coin to Tivo.... I have a DT Tivo with IR sensor to FIOS box and the channel changing lag is appalling (often the wrong channel is displayed if you change channels too quickly, takes couple seconds for a channel to change, etc.). Is this lag less of an issue when using a TivoHD DVR with the m-card connection to FIOS?
I am so frustrated by the limited recording capacity of the FIOS DVR that I am willing to upgrade my TiVO DVR is this channel selection works properly.
Thanks!

I was told by both the billling department and tech support in Washington, DC that they don't have the M-cards available just the single stream. Any ideas on how to check when/if they will get them? All the folks I spoke with were pretty clueless...
Billing and tech support don't have that information. Verizon's order and support systems do not differentiate between M-CARDs and the older S-CARDs. Motorola discontinued S-CARDs back in February or March, so every market that runs out of those gets M-CARDs automatically.
M-CARDs are confirmed to be widely available from Verizon in the DC Metro area (N. VA / Maryland), Delaware, and parts of Washington state. No CSR can guarantee you a M-CARD over the phone, because they only have one checkmark for "CableCard" on their screen. But you can politely ask the CSR to make a note on your order for the installer, requesting they bring a MCARD if available. If you live in the DC Metro area, you should not have any problem getting a MCARD.

Yes. Total channel changing time on a TivoHD with FiOS is about 2.0s, and closer to 1.0s if the channels are the same frequency. It takes about 0.5s to swap between two channels on different tuners.
