After subscribing to Directv for 11 years and just recently switching to Fios I also found the "Favorites" button to be a work around instead of proper behavior.  When I program a list of Channels I want viewed in a guide that is the list I expect when turning on the receiver. I do not see why a user must use the Favorites button each time.  There are certain Channels I do not want my kids to see and that is after setting up Parental Controls. The Menu Button should behave the way I want it to not the way Verizon thinks it should. Other Companies have figured this out why not  Verizon?

1) It should, and you don't, if you set up the Favorties definitions correctly. Specifically:

Favorites button ==> Toggle Flip by Favorties

Flip by Favorites ==> whichever Favorites list you want it to use, Favorites 1 or Favorites 2

Last Viewed Guide State ==> Enable (I do not find this setting necessary, but others seem to)

2) I assume you mean the Guide Button not the Menu Button, right?

Justin, after reading a lot of the posts in this thread don't you feel like banging your head against the wall???? Everything you have been saying is dead on correct, the FAVORITES buttons work quite well and are very easy to set up. I think a lot of the people here just like to complain. Yes, it can be a bit of a pain in the rear to initially set-up but once done it functions just fine. And those who keep going on about DirectTV, well in the house we rented for vacation this year had DirectTV and lets just say I was less than impressed by it, especially it's guide and channel organization (or lack there of). It certainly did not seem any better than FiOS.

FiOS is NOT DirectTV and DirectTV is not FiOS. Embrace change, you switched from one to the other, get used to the change instead complaining. And stop with the "I'm going to switch back because of this" nonsense, you're not impressing anyone and we don't care.

Yes, I have issues with FiOS liike everyone does, it's not perfect (where is BBCA-HD!?!?!?!?!). But all this threatening to switch nonsense accomplishes nothing. If you're that upset by it, just switch back.

Sorry, but reading a lot of these posts has really annoyed me.

Bobbo527,

Well, yes and no. Lots of the new users are naturally comparing the new with the old, and since it is different, and Verizon provides virtually no documentation or guidance on how to make the best use of FiOS TV, I do understand their frustrations. At least at times..... Smiley Very Happy But I also wish they would be more open to exploring FiOS, don't just sit there complaining but instead push the various buttons to see what they do, pick the various options to see what they do, and then hopefully settle on choices that they like. I suspect they had to do that when they first got DirecTV or whatever, but maybe not. That is what I had to do....

In the second post in this thread (a year and a half ago!) I provided a link to my document on setting up Favorites; I do wonder how many bother to read the document before they complain. I do understand that some people feel they should not have to even set up a Favorites list, but that is the path that Verizon chose, so that is the way you do it with FiOS. Period. Complaining is not going to change it. Of course with 1.9 there is a "subscribed" option, which might address some of the issues. But Verizon still needs to do some things to make Favorites even better, like backup and restore of Favorties lists, porting of lists from one STB to another, etc.

I have been playing around with a new document on the 1.9 level of the IMG, and incorporating my Exploiting FiOS TV Favorites document into that as well as covering many of the setup options in the menu, etc. Do you think there would be value in my providing such a document? Part of the problem with writing something like that is that I have a very specific FiOS TV configuration, only one brand of STBs, I don't use all of the options, etc, so it is very difficult to write about something you cannot test or verify. Plus of course I am very opinionated..... Smiley Very Happy
