Moving to new residence in same city, Verizon sent a new DVR

We're moving to a new house in the same city.  We have Verizon FIOS, and have been using a QIP7232 2 DVR.

When I signed up for the change of residence, one of the options was to keep the present equipment, which I chose.  I was surprised to see a large box at the new place, in it was a QIP7216P2 (500GB).  There was a mailing label to send back the "old" DVR.  However, I think our "old" DVR is the better one, and has recorded shows on it that I'd prefer to keep.  The "old" one definitely looks better, all black and glossy. While the "new" one is clearly refurbished, with scuffs and such, and all the buttons make it look like a VCR from the late 90s.    

So, two questions. 

1) Is the QIP7232 2 indeed the better DVR?

2)  can I just send back the QIP7216P2 to Verizon, or are they forcing me to change?

1.) The 7232 is the newer model of the bunch. The 7216P2 is just a refurbished 7216 which originally had smaller hard drives in them and now have 500 gb hard drives. The 7216's were released before the 7232's.

 The 7232 does use less power consumption if that matters to you. I have one of each model in my house and I dont see any other difference besides the look.

2.) Yes you can send it back and they arent forcing you to switch boxes. Keep whatever one you want. and return the other.

If you take it to a UPS store they will box it and ship it back for you. Verizon can send a pre paid label and box to you as well. You can take it to a fios store, but they now charge a $10 fee to return boxes there so shipping it back is a better way. Just hang onto the tracking and any records.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but am curious if this worked out for the OP. VZ CSR is telling me it is mandatory to return the equipment. Doesn't make sense, moving ~1mi away... Would like to keep DVR + Esata...

IF you ask for a move you normally use the same routers, dvr's and STB.
