Use of existing DVR

Hi - I had to disconnect my service in 10 days due to a billing issue and reapply for a new FIOS triple play . I got the latest model of DVR with my first installation, but when they came for second installation, they came with an old model.

I have to return the frst DVR, instead can I use the first DVR (latest model) and return the one that was installed recently. i.e., is it possible to swap it. I am also told that I should pay for obtaining the new model DVR, it is too inefficient.. why can't i just swap the DVRs with the help of some assistance from you, instead of simply returning it.
