When you have a past due balance and a current balance how do you know how much has to be paid in order to keep the account active

It says so right on your billing statement at the very top how much your past due is, current and due dates..
Could even do basic math and divide the total by 2.

Times are tough. You need to know what to do to stay afloat. You'll need to set up a Promise to Pay for at least the past due amount as soon as possible. Instructions on how to do that are here: https://www.verizon.com/support/promise-to-pay-faqs/. Make sure you do that before the account is suspended. It makes things much less complicated.
