You've already started off with a great step, Kare406. Usually the volume settings https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-88494/ would be the first place I would look too. I'm sure we'll find out what's going on. Just to clarify, what kind of sounds are you unable to hear (video clips, alarms, notifications, in-app sounds, etc.)? Have you tried power cycling the tablet? Do you recall downloading anything new right before the sounds stopped?
