This evening a previously operational installation Message+ on my iPad Pro defaulted to a “start messaging” screen that required that I reenter my phone number in order to get a code, but when I select “Send Code” I get this response: “Error. Not able to generate pin. Please try again later some time.” What’s going on and how do I restore receiving Tex’s on my iPad?

We're sorry for the issues you're having with your Message+. The app is being discontinued, and we recommend using another messaging app like Google messages or iMessages as an alternative.

Will Message+ also be discontinued on Android phones? We just got two Galaxy S24+ phones—how will we text if the app is discontinued? This discontinuation seems very unfortunate on Verizon’s part.

Yes. Like the previous post says 'we recommend using another messaging app like Google messages'.

We don't want you to be left without a messaging app. Message+ will be discontinued, but there are many other messaging apps available. We recommend using Google Messages as a replacement.
