Update shows installed 01Jan 1970?

Right after I started using my tablet I don't think I even had the sim card in it yet, it must have made  connection to an available wifi and my tablet started acting super strange, I couldn't get it to do anything after a few minutes and had to hold the power button down to get it to restart.

After restarting it showed a message saying the Verizon update was installed correctly. Then it acted weird and turned off then restarted showing the same message, I tried to go online to find out what happened so I put the SIM card in it and it showed me the same message, I set it up quickly turned off the wifi and couldn't do anything on line. Since I am familiar with the web I figured my date might not be set right and saw the time we way off, but u know that it will be the year that will cause these problems. When i checked it was set to Jan 1 1970!

I set it and saw that my time was wrong again, I checked and it was back to 1970 so I unchecked allow automatic time setting and set it again. All was good, then I get the message again, and again, so I look to find out what updated and it showed the last update was installed 01 Jan 1970!

I also noticed that the update was an older update and when I had it check for new updates it couldn't connect to the server, that's why I'm here now, I still have Android 4. Something and I have another exact tablet and it has version 5.1.1 installed.

I'm stull getting random messages and locked screens when I check for an update now the page does nothing, it quickly flashes the checking for update message but it instantly goes away before it can be read.

How do i get this tablet up to date now I'm thinking the first update has ruined any new updates from ever installing.

I forgot to mentioning did  factory reset and the date was back to 1970 the message popped up a few times after I corrected it and I also did a partition wipe hoping to clear the message and get new updates. It still has messages popping up and I had to do a few hard restarts still.

Is this device still on an active Verizon Wireless line?

2002zinda, we know how important it is to have your device working properly and we want to do everything we can to help. In order for us to better assist, we’ll need to have ask some questions to gather additional information. Can you please confirm the exact model number and version number that you’re currently using on this device?  You may go to Settings > About Tablet, to view this information. Additionally, outside of showing an older software version and running into error messages when checking for an update, have you experienced any other issues while using the tablet? Can you please confirm if you are currently using the tablet with our cellular network or is it just being used over Wi-Fi during this time?
