Mistake returned item

I have been dealing with this issue for a couple weeks now. I just switched over to Verizon and I was suppose to send back my old phone as a trade in. At the same time I was suppose to send back my work/professional laptop to my ex employer. They both were going through ups and the labels were placed on the wrong boxes. I have have tons of tickets created by Verizon for every time I have called. I needed the laptop to be sent back to me and I have been told on numerous occasions that it would be sent back. Then I have been told I would be called about the item and I havenโ€™t received any call backs. Now I call today and I was told I canโ€™t get the laptop back after 2 weeks this is what im being told. My company is now wanting to sue for the laptop to receive it back. I need someone to tell me what needs to be done. It was an honest mistake and itโ€™s going to be taken further.
