Verizon saying they did not receive phone I sent to them

I returned my phone for a trade-in the day after I received the UPS pouch from Verizon. Now all of a sudden after I cancel my Internet service with Verizon because of poor reception in my area, I get a letter saying they did not receive the phone I returned and they will be charging me $1000 . I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the attorney general in my state and use the influencers I work with at my marketing firm to get the word out on what Verizon is doing to its customers. Horrible company for doing this to so many people. I see this is a regular business practice for Verizon.
