It is a quote from Customer Service Rep on 08.06.2022 "Turning off Cellular Data can still allow the device to connect to towers internationally, triggering travel pass session. We inform customers that when they do not want to triggering a Travel Pass session, to enable Airplane mode as this will block all cellular connection to towers." I have never been informed about this; not in an email and not in a text message. I keep getting text messages about my travel pass being triggered, but there is no information about how to turn it off. I followed the link and still no information on this. I opened up the question and answer on the Travel Pass and there is no way to find this information there. I read all the questions and all the answers but it is not there. I can actually provide another quote that we followed the protocol that is stated in the question and answer form on Travel Pass and we are still getting charged for the travel pass. Maybe this information is available somewhere, but certainly not in a place where it is easy to find. Where you would expect it to find. I found the information on this blog after looking for it for an hour, I also chatted with an agent for half an hour to learn this. On my vacation time. I am writing this because I am hoping that the way Verizon informs customers will become more transparent and I hope to resolve this on my next bill. When a travel pass is initiated there should be an explanation right there on how to turn it off. I got another notification just now: on my daughter's phone, the travel pass was triggered. I tried to call her, but I cannot reach her. Because her cell service is off, but I am charged for it. And because of a lack of transparency, it took me days to find out. I will update this if I learn something new. Because interestingly my phone never gets triggered but only my kids' phone. But no one can explain why. We are all on one account.

Hello, Krisztina, we definitely want you to have the right information as far as TravelPass so you know when you will be charged. Please click here: https://www.verizon.com/support/travelpass-faqs/ for additional details regarding TravelPass. The section labeled "How does TravelPass Work and How Will I Be Charged For It?" will explain more about how you will be charged. You will initiate a TravelPass session by making or answering a call, sending a text, or using data. Please know that when cellular data and/or data roaming are turned on, a TravelPass session can be started due to background data being used. An example if this would be your device syncing your email to your phone. Please let us know if this helps answer your question.

@Anonymous, the current Verizon unlimited plans cover talk/text to Canada and Mexico so long as you are in the US. When outside of the US, international roaming kicks in, so it's either pay for Travel Pass, a monthly international service plan, pay as you go international roaming charges, or use a local SIM/eSIM if your device is unlocked. Or else you'd have to completely shut off your phone or keep it in airplane mode the whole time and never go on Wi-Fi either.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
