How can I choose what files go to cloud? And how can I know whether the files in my cloud are also stored on my phone?

It didn't answer my question. I don't want or need text messages, pictures, phone calls, etc sent to Cloud. I don't mind having my contacts there but I have added a memory card to store my pictures.

If you open the Cloud app on your phone you can choose what types of data you want to backup.  Select only contacts and de-select all others.
