How to backup photos to cloud with Moto X

I have recently purchased a prepaid Verizon Moto X. I am only able to backup my contacts in the cloud. I would like to know how to backup my photos in the cloud as well. Can anyone walk me thru it?

Use Google Photos to backup your photos to your Google account.
