Ensure the application is up to date. That is definitely not normal. I cannot think of anything off the top of my head. I would ensure you have the available space.
Do as suggested and go to the playstore and make sure your apps are up to date. Open the Cloud and click on the 3 lines. Go to settings>what to back up. Do you see the option to select other things like photos, videos, music, documents, messages and call history? Select what you want and hit ok.
