Verizon cloud running in background, draining battery FAST

I have Cloud set to run on Samsung (Android OS) phone only on wifi and only at night from 11pm-6am, but it is still running in the background during the day and draining my battery FAST.   I even had the battery replaced, but it still won't hold a charge long... and Verizon Cloud is always at the top of the list for apps that are using battery.  In the past,  I thought there was a setting on only allow it to operate if the phone was on charge but that's not the case now.  Ideas?  Suggestions?
