What should I do to add more storage to my device?

I need more storage. Should I get a Micro SD Card or pay Verizon ~$3.00 a month for extra cloud storage?

local storage. - pro: one time cost, no monthly fees.   Fast access. Available without Internet

        Con: if phone list, it is lost, not good backup strategy

cloud storage pro:  off site backup, not lost if phone lost.

      Con:  must have Internet, costs more in long term. Slower
