When I receive a photo in messages I can't add it to my gallery if there is no text with it, why not?

If I receive a text message with a picture and there is text, I can save it in my picture gallery, but it gets put into a folder named "download" and it will not be saved to the cloud. So, two questions: 1) why can't I save a picture from text messaging without text, and 2) why won't the folder named "download" in my picture gallery not get saved to the cloud? These are precious pictures to me as they are of my new grandbaby.

rose14, congratulations on your new grandbaby! We don't want you to lose any moments with that precious gift. Which make/model phone do you have? To save a picture, you need to press/hold that photo down to choose the option to save it. Once it's saved, you can manually sync it to the Cloud in the sync settings of your device
