I just received a text message that stated: "Your free Verizon Cloud service is expiring. Save pics/videos offline or upgrade to Premium to avoid losing content by 8/23." This has been a part of my plan for years, why is being taken away?

We are very sorry for any confusion the text message caused. We are not getting rid of Verizon Cloud all together, but are closing it out for customers who are not utilizing it. This helps clear congestion on our server for customers who do use the Cloud.
The text message goes out automatically, but as long as you complete the steps on this link, you will not be affected: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/verizon-cloud-inactive.
