I know its important to use the device that you've been paying for the past year dnagiles. I'm sorry the update isn't going through but we can help. Did you check to make sure it's set up to connect to your home internet service? Any changes with your home internet service would need to be updated on the tablet. I would remove the wifi connection and set it up as a new connection. Have you tried connecting it to your computer? Is the device still active on your Verizon Wireless account?
