Alternative to Message+

Are there alternative messaging apps for Message+ other then Google Messages?

I see Verizon is pushing the monopoly maker Google for a replacement but I'd rather not use them as I don't want Google to have a history of my messages (I don't want Verizon to have a history either, but...) Also, I don't want to use Google for other reasons.

I get Verizon discontinued Message+ ostensibly because they didn't want to add RCS.

Someone suggested (in another post) the reason is the cost of adding RCS to Message+, but I find that argument specious. Verizon is a multi billion dollar company, and paying someone a few thousand dollars to add RCS would be unnoticeable to them. Much more likely is Google simply paid them a lot of money.

I'd like the app to use RCS, but I really don't care much as long as my recipient can get my messages.

I also like it to be free, I might pay a one time fee of $10 or so, but a monthly fee is a deal breaker.

Thanks for any suggestions, Mark.

Hey CoolJavelin, we know it is important to keep up with your messages and be able to have options when it comes to your messaging provider. We did retire Message+ and moved over to Google Messages. Vtext online was also retired in 2023.
What kind of device do you have? We do recommend moving over to Google Messages or using your devices default messaging app (iMessage, Samsung Messages etc.)

Use a search engine to look up alternative apps.
