Delay in receiving text messages

I received several messages (7) all at the same approximate time from the same sender (time stamp showed 2 @ 3:11, 4 @ 3:12, & 1 @ 3:13) using a Verizon Droid phone.  The body of the text messages reflected they had been sent over a 2 hour plus time period but I received them all at once.  My phone (Samsung Intensity) was fully charged and "messages" was not full.  Is there the possibility there was a couple hour delay in receiving these messages?

This happens to me sometimes as well.  I live in an area where I don't have to drive terribly far to get spotty cell coverage, and these type of incidents tend to happen when I'm out in the country for a while, or working in a building with thick concrete walls.  It could also just be a hiccup on the tower/Verizon side of the system that has nothing to do with your phone or its signal.

Is this happening consistently, or just this one time?

Same thing happened to me last night.  My boyfriend txtd me at 3:20am to make sure I got home safely and I didn't receive any messages until 8am. He was freaking out thinking that I was hurt or angry at him. He also tried to call, but didn't go through and didn't get voicemail until 8m either. Don't know if it is my env3 as when I opened it one time the screen saver was moving so slow.  I am a new customer since January, hoping this doesn't continue to happen. I am really angry at Verizon right now because of this. I get a good signal everywhere I go, except his house was at 1 bar, but went back to a bigger city with a tower, so no excuse because I went to a stronger signal area!!

Anytime you are in a building, rural area, or surrounded by a lot of installation, the signal on the phone could become weaker.  This can cause a delay in messages and cause your calls to be routed to your voicemail.  It is highly recommended that you dial *228 send and option 2 at least every 30 days to update your phone to the nearest towers.

I have been having the same problem with delayed text messages and missed calls.  My phone can be sitting on the table in my home and a call will go straight to voice mail.  When I call back, my caller says it rang 4 to 6 times.  Text messages can take up to 12 HOURS to show up!

This quality of coverage is absolutely terrible and I am disgusted.  I understand why a phone's signal is dimished when it's inside or near lots of interference.  This DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE 12 HOUR DELAY!!

I regularly use the *228 feature, so this can't be the issue, and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so there has got to be plenty of available towers.

I challenge Verizon to come up with a better explanation for this delay problem. AND FIX IT!  Show us you actually want our business by adressing a real problem in a timely manner.

Does the 12 hour delay only occur when you're inside your home?

I've been having this problem for about 3 years on 2 different phones.  The first time I noticed this was when I was using my LG Chocolate v1, and I am now using the Samsung Omnia v1.  After about 7pm the text that I receive from other people are 2-6 hours delayed and it doesn't matter what day of the week it is but if I send a text at anytime I while get all delayed text as soon as I send.  What I mean is that if I'm convo texting to more then one person then I won't have any delayed text from people as long as I'm sending but as soon as I stop sending then the delay starts.   All I have to say is that I am finally SICK of this....  I have 4 months until my contract is done and that means I am done with Verizon FOREVER and I will never recommend Verizon to anyone!

Do you reside in a rural area?  Have you updated your PRL by dialing *228 send and option 2?  This should be done at least every 30 days.  These factors determine the signal strength for your device.
