Delayed text messages | Samsung 8+

In the past month or so I have noticed that some text messages are getting delayed/hung up.  It seems as though messages are being held in cyberspace until more messages arrive, then a batch is sent.  I normally get a notification when I receive new messages, it works some of the time but not all of the time lately.  I'm not sure what is new/different that is causing this issue.  I text the same people I have always been texting without issue, until now.  The other people do have iPhones and I have a Samsung Galaxy 8+ and I am using Messenger+ that was loaded on my phone when I got it.  It is frustrating to have a 12-24 hour delay on messages.  Hope you can help me get this figured out!
