Delayed texting

This past week my phone has been showing me that I have sent text messages, but the recipients aren't getting them for hours and in one case days. Also it has sent some people the same text again a few hours later. How can I get this to stop? I have an iPhone 4.

Hey there Bolyn79,

Let's keep those text messages flowing in a timely manner. Can you receive text messages ok? The messages that you send that are delayed, are they iMessages or regular text messages? Are they only to specific contacts or all of them? How long has this been going on for?

I would try dialing *228 and pressing option 2 to refresh your connection to the towers.

Please provide additional details so that I can better assist.

We've had similar issues.  Also, some of our texts say that they are not delivered (message not sent) when, in fact, they had been sent.  We have restarted our devices and that seemed to help for a period of time.  I wonder if it is with the amount of data being transported between towers at that given time?  Would there need to be more towers added to specific areas?

We want to help keep those messages flowing briandanielle! What make and model devices? What messaging app? Where are you located? Is this only happening in one area?

We have a couple of Windows phones, Galaxy SIII, Droid M, Droid X... We use the Verizon Texting app and are located in PA where there is great coverage.  We also have a network extender to make sure we don't miss anything.

THANKS

Hi briandanielle,

We definitely want your messages to be received 24/7! Can you further elaborate on what exactly occurs with your messaging? We're here for you, thanks!

Sure!  The phone acts as if it is going to send.  It then pauses for close to 30 seconds.  After that, it comes back as being "message not sent".

THANKS

Thanks for the details briandanielle. Does this happen on all devices using the Verizon messages app? Do you experience the same issues using the stock messaging application? Try uninstalling and reinstalling the application and update us with results.

Yep.  It happens on all devices.  It doesn't matter if it has the Verizon app installed or the standard app for texting.  I tried what you requested and it still occurs occasionally.  Please note that this is not all of the time but it is annoying.

braindanielle,

Thank you for the information. Do you notice a trend on any speicfic numbers this happens with or any specific time? With such an intermittent problem we want to find a centralizing cause that we can address. Please keep us updated.

Thank you,

No.  Unfortunately, there is no specific number or time of day that it happens more often than not.

I'm having a problem with "message not sent". This has been happening for several hours now. I have now powered off my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) and turned it back on, but the problem is persisting. It says "sending..." for a while, and then I get the red triangle and "Message not sent." Very annoying!

Lets get those messages to send, carla_nycity! Have you tried to remove the sim card and place it back in? Does this happen while on WiFi? Can you receive messages? What is your zip code?

Please share additional details so that I can assist.

Thank you,

It turned out to be just one message that wouldn't send. After I stopped trying to send that message, I was able to send others subsequently. Are there some characters that could cause a message to get rejected?  I did have some accented letters.

Hi Bolyn79,

Thanks for the details! What device do you have? When did this issue start? Is this happening with a particular contact or all contacts? Keep me posted.

Thanks,

I've been having a similar issue. There are many times where in the middle of a text conversation, certain texts will not go through. they just hang there with that little spinning circle, and then after 3 minutes or so they will prompt me that they didn't go through. strangely they will go through within a couple of seconds when I try to resend them. also, most of the time they keep any following intermittent texts to also not go through until that first "sending" text resolves, while other times the newer texts will go through even though the other one is still "sending" and fails. this is an EXTREMELY annoying issue as sometimes responses in these conversations are time sensitive and can be troublesome when they don't go through right away. there is no specific time that this issue occurs, nor to any specific contact, unless you want to say it is limited to specifically EVERY contact I have. I've also had the rare occurrence last week of not receiving a text until 1:27am, when it was originally sent to me around 4pm. this caused me to miss out on a work opportunity and over $300 in earnings, which would have helped pay for Verizon's ridiculously high phone bill for the month... I live in Queens, NY zip code 11103, and have a Samsung Galaxy SIII.

I've also noticed that my phone will often only show one or 2 bars of signal IN THE MIDDLE OF NYC(!!!) when on 4G-LTE, but when it sometimes switches to 3G, it consistently holds 4-5 bars of signal, making it a much smoother and faster experience than 4G-LTE. WHY IS THAT????? and can I somehow keep it on 3G so I don't have to deal with the inconsistency and slowdown of 4G (as ridiculous as that statement sounds)?

I'm sorry you're having these problems with your messaging nevsim81. In many cases, there could be a text or two stuck in the thread. Are you using default messaging app, or 3rd party? If 3rd party, please try deleting app and using default. Also, please try deleting threads. Lastly, you can go to Settings>Apps>All>Messages>Clear Cache then restart phone. Let's see if helps.

There isn't a way to turn phone onto 3G, from 4G, but try removing SIM card & clear memory: http://bit.ly/U6bGeK

Hopefully this will work. Please keep us posted.

Thank you,
