The word "Delivered " stays at bottom of message. Usually disappears. Why is that?

I haven't used Message+ in awhile, but I think it's pretty good about letting you know the status of your text messages. I could be confusing it with another messenger service I use, but doesn't it tell you when the other party is typing? I believe it changes to delivered when the recipient opens it. In any case, it's just there to let you know the status; sent, delivered, failed etc.
